The Foundation (PRWF) successfully hosted its PR Student Summit at Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), uniting aspiring communications professionals, undergraduate students, and senior industry practitioners in a forward-looking dialogue on building sustainable careers in Public Relations and Communications.
The summit is a flagship initiative of PRWF, designed to position Public Relations and Communications as a viable, impactful, and rewarding career path for students across tertiary institutions in Africa and other emerging markets. The programme equips participants with the professional mindset, practical skills, and industry exposure required to navigate and excel in today's competitive communications landscape.
The event featured two distinguished communications professionals as keynote speakers: Joel Krampa, Communication Lead at Africa Prosperity Network, and Eunice Samuel, Senior Communications Analyst at EyeCity Africa. Both speakers drew from their own career trajectories to offer actionable guidance and candid reflections on what it takes to thrive in the industry.
Eunice Samuel underscored the strategic value of volunteering, consistency, and patience as foundational pillars of professional growth. She challenged students to pursue practical experience early in their academic journeys, arguing that proactive engagement beyond the classroom creates meaningful opportunities for learning and career advancement. She also addressed the often overlooked importance of balancing academic commitments with professional exposure.
"Students must be willing to put in the work and remain patient. Patience is important for career advancement, and learning how to balance work and study is a skill that will help shape successful professionals." — Eunice Samuel, Senior Communications Analyst, EyeCity Africa
Joel Krampa spoke compellingly on the power of mentorship, strategic networking, and credibility-driven relationship building across the African continent. He emphasised that professional reputation is built not merely through visibility, but through the consistent delivery of value, a quality that ensures one is recommended even in their absence. His career journey, which has seen his network extend across Ghana and several other African countries, served as a testament to the long-term returns of intentional relationship cultivation.
He encouraged students to develop boldness and confidence alongside their technical skills, describing these qualities as indispensable differentiators in any professional environment.
"You can reach out to professionals, but credibility, trust, and value are what will sustain those connections and make people willing to respond and support your growth." — Joel Krampa, Communication Lead, Africa Prosperity Network
The PR Student in Campus Summit is part of PRWF's broader mission to close the persistent gap between academic preparation and the demands of professional practice. Beyond knowledge transfer, the Summit serves as a structured platform for young professionals to develop and refine critical competencies, including public speaking, leadership, and professional engagement, that are essential for long-term career success.
