PRWF successfully hosted its PR Students On-Campus Summit at the University of Lomé, bringing together emerging public relations professionals for an impactful learning experience.
The summit reinforced PRWF’s core mission to empower the next generation of public relations and communications professionals with the knowledge, tools, and global perspective required to thrive in today’s evolving industry. With a growing focus on Africa and the Global South, the initiative marks a significant step in expanding access to opportunities for young talent across the continent.
The summit had in attendance an enthusiastic audience of undergraduates eager to explore career pathways in public relations. They gained from the insightful sessions delivered by two experienced speakers who shared practical knowledge, industry perspectives, and guidance on building successful careers from an early stage.
‘’Students should recognise university as a launchpad for opportunities and make the most of it. Skills such as time management, attention to detail, curiosity, volunteering, and the ability to document achievements are key differentiators between a good and a great professional’’, said Shalom Akanbi, Junior Communications Strategist at So.Me Solutions.
Farida Ossele, Strategic Communications & Stakeholder Engagement professional at MTN Cameroon, expanded the conversation with a powerful session on the importance of starting strong and consistently delivering exceptional results, noting that excellence naturally creates opportunities for advancement. Drawing from her own journey, from intern to taking on greater responsibilities, she encouraged students to be intentional about their growth, give their best, and stand out through the quality of their work.
The summit created an interactive platform for dialogue, where students actively engaged, asked questions, and shared feedback. Participants described the session as highly impactful, noting the relevance of the insights shared and the inspiration gained to pursue careers in public relations.
Speaking on the initiative, Stella Okos-Iboje, the Programs Lead at PRWF, reiterated the Foundation's commitment to nurturing talent and positioning public relations as a viable and rewarding career path for young people. She also shared that students do not have to wait until after graduation to begin their journey, but can start building skills, networks, and experience while still in school.
As part of its broader vision, PRWF announced plans to expand the PR Students On-Campus Summit across more universities in Africa and other emerging regions. This expansion aligns with the Foundation’s goal of ensuring that public relations education, awareness, and opportunities reach every corner of the continent and beyond.
The Foundation continues to champion capacity building, inclusivity, and global exposure for young professionals, driving a future where African talent plays a leading role in shaping the global communications landscape.
